Volunteers Make Camp Possible
Volunteers are an essential part of Lumsden Beach Camp. Each summer, people from across our community give their time, skills, and energy to help care for campers, support our staff, prepare meals, maintain the property, and keep camp running smoothly.
You don’t need to have grown up at LBC to volunteer. Our volunteers include parents, grandparents, students, professionals, former campers, and people who are completely new to the camp community. What they share is a desire to help create a great experience for kids.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities
Medical Personnel
Qualified medical volunteers work alongside the Camp Director to support the health and safety of campers, staff, and volunteers.
This may include administering medications, responding to health concerns, maintaining medical records, and promoting healthy practices throughout the camp session.
Medical volunteers may include:
- Medical Doctors
- Registered Nurses
- Graduate Nurses
- Licensed Practical Nurses
- Emergency Medical Technicians
Kitchen Volunteers
Kitchen volunteers help our cook prepare nutritious meals for campers, staff, and volunteers.
Typical duties may include food preparation, serving meals, washing dishes, cleaning, and helping keep the kitchen organized and running smoothly.
Maintenance Assistants
Maintenance volunteers help care for and improve the camp property.
Tasks can include painting, lawn care, general repairs, outdoor clean-up, organizing equipment, and other projects that help keep LBC safe and welcoming.
Childcare Volunteers
Childcare volunteers help care for the children of staff and volunteers while their parents are fulfilling their duties at camp.
They organize and supervise age-appropriate activities and help make it possible for more adults to volunteer.
Volunteer and Save on Camp Fees
To encourage families to get involved, eligible adult volunteers can receive a $30 per day deduction from camper registration fees for their child or grandchild.
The deduction may be applied even if you volunteer during a different camp session than the one your child attends.
Volunteers under 16 are not eligible for the deduction.
Bringing Children While You Volunteer
Volunteers may be able to bring non-registered children to camp while volunteering.
Children who are camper age must be registered for camp, while non-registered children must be immediate family members normally in the volunteer’s care. Medical information must be provided, and medications must be stored with camp medical personnel.
LBC provides childcare for children age 10 and under during the hours their parent or guardian is actively volunteering. Additional fees may apply depending on the child’s age and the number of children attending. Youth over age 12 may also be able to assist with an appropriate volunteer role.
Volunteering While Your Child Is at Camp
If you are volunteering during your child’s camp session, we ask that you allow them to fully participate as a camper.
Camp staff remain responsible for your child during the session, and volunteers are encouraged to give their child space to make friends, participate independently, and enjoy the full camp experience.
Volunteer Behind the Scenes
Not every volunteer role happens during summer camp.
Throughout the year, volunteers support LBC through our Board of Directors, committees, work days, fundraising, property projects, communications, events, and other initiatives.
We are especially interested in people with experience or interest in:
Finance • Fundraising • Property • Promotions • Food Services • Human Resources • Governance

Volunteer Requirements
Because the safety of our campers comes first, all volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application and submit a criminal record check before volunteering.
